Dr. Tanu Jain: Educational and professional background
Tanu Jain’s education began at Cambridge School in Sriniwaspuri, Delhi, where she laid the groundwork for her academic career. She advanced her education by receiving a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Subharti Medical College in Meerut. Initially, Dr. Jain practiced dentistry using her BDS qualification. However, motivated by a desire to serve her country in a much wider capacity, she embarked on a transformational journey to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer. From 2015, she dedicated herself to various civil service roles, beginning with the Armed Forces Headquarters Service, according to various reports. Tanu Jain’s journey from dentistry to civil service exemplifies the pursuit of excellence and service to society.
Donning the hat of an IAS Officer
Dr. Jain set out on her UPSC journey with determination, knowing fully well that the road ahead was tough and bumpy. She took a focused approach, which resulted in her remarkable achievement of passing the prelims in just two months. Dr. Jain credits her success to a thorough study of basic books, particularly NCERTs, and unwavering dedication to practice. Her experience underscores the significance of meticulous preparation and targeted practice for success in the preliminary examination.
Although passing the prelims was a significant accomplishment, Dr. Tanu Jain suffered a setback in the Mains examination and was unable to crack it due to inadequate preparation. Rather than being disheartened, she saw this setback as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. Dr. Jain meticulously examined her performance, identifying areas where she fell short and recording her flaws and errors in a detailed diary.
She addressed each point in a systematic manner, emphasising the importance of ongoing self-assessment and improvement. Dr. Jain’s dedication to self-improvement and disciplined approach demonstrate the resilience and determination required to overcome the obstacles of UPSC preparation. Although she did not pass the Main examination at her first attempt, Dr. Jain persevered and achieved a rank of 648 on her third attempt.
UPSC Coach: A new beginning
Quitting her service life after 7 and a half years, Dr. Jain now connects with aspirants on platforms such as social media, mock interviews sessions, and giving motivational speeches to aspirants in coaching centres. She keeps inspiring and assisting UPSC aspirants, making their journey seem a bit easier with her guidance and encouragement. She has now set up her own UPSC CSE coaching centre named ‘Tathastu ICS’.
