Shivam Dube joked that he and Ravindra Jadeja are still not out from last year’s IPL final after Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the IPL 2024 season. Dube and Jadeja came together to ensure that CSK got home with 8 balls and 6 wickets to spare on Friday as the defending champions started off with a fine win.

Dube and Jadeja were both unbeaten when CSK lifted the title last season and played crucial cameos to ensure the win in Ahmedabad. They would do the same on Friday at the Chepauk as CSK won the match in front of their passionate fans.

Dube said it was an amazing feeling to finish the game, while talking to teammate Rachin Ravindra, and it was something he has picked up from MS Dhoni.

“It was amazing. Me and Jadeja are still not out from 2023 (final). Finishing the game for Chennai is always something else for me. That’s what I have learned from Mahi bhai and that’s what I’m trying to do in every game. That feels very good when you finish the game like this and especially, on the first game of the IPL. So it feels very good,” said Dube.

Rachin would ask if it was a conscious effort by Dube to remain unbeaten, to which the southpaw said he was just looking to watch the ball and play it.

“There was only thing in my mind. Watch the ball and play. Because I know what I can do when I am there till the end,” said Dube.

How good was Jadeja and Dube’s partnership?

Jadeja came into bat as CSK were going through a tricky phase as Dube was being peppered with short deliveries by the RCB bowlers. Jadeja’s arrival would help Dube calm down a bit and play freely as the duo put on 66 runs in 37 deliveries to guide their team home.

RCB had posted 173 for 6 in their 20 overs with Mustafizur Rahman picking up 4 wickets. However, it wasn’t enough in the end, as their dreadful run at the Chepauk continued.

CSK will now face Gujarat Titans in their next match on March 26.
