Rajasthan defeated Delhi to win their second group stage game of the Indian Premier League 2024. This was Rajasthan’s second win in a row, which placed them in the second position of the points table. Youngster Riyan Parag turned out to be one of their star performers in both matches, hitting 43 in the first match and then 83* in the second one.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan lauded the youngster and said that Parag has learnt from his mistakes committed over the past years. Parag has already scored 127 runs in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League, almost 50 runs more than his total tally in the previous edition of the tournament. The likes of Robin Uthappa have even said that Parag has finally started to talk less with his mouth and more with his bat in the current season.

“He is still a very young man in cricketing terms. To strike as well as he has done… even though he has made mistakes over the years, he is proving that he is learning from those. It’s one thing saying hard work and dedication and discipline and various different things, but it has to present itself with opportunities,” Eoin Morgan said on Jio Cinema after the conclusion of RR vs DC on Thursday, 28 March.

The World Cup-winning captain further praised the Rajasthan franchise for backing Parag through his lean years. Parag had made his IPL debut back in 2019 but had not been able to put up consistent performances. The batter was in fact heavily criticised in the 2023 season for scoring just 78 runs from his 7 matches.

“When it comes to the backing and the clarity that Sanju Samson has given him at the beginning of the tournament, it says a lot. We know how IPL teams, particularly when it comes to the selection of final XI, they chop and change. But to come out before the season and make that statement, I think it’s been a great call,” Morgan further added.

Parag is coming off a sensational domestic series where he became the first ever player to hit 6 half-centuries in back to back games. Parag was praised by Suryakumar Yadav during RR’s match vs DC for his work ethic that he had been putting in behind the scenes ahead of the IPL 2024.

“Met a guy at NCA a few weeks ago. He came with a slight niggle. Completely focused on his recovery and with great discipline, working on his skills. And I was not wrong to tell that to one of the coaches there ‘He is a changed guy’ RIYAN PARAG 2.0. Watch Out!” World No. 1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, wrote in his post.

RR will next take on MI on April 1.
